Before you apply

What to know before you apply from Algeria

Students lose a year by picking the wrong route or missing a date. Start here.

Your route

Your level decides your route. You don't get to pick it.

  • Bac only, first year of a licence at a public university

You apply through the “demande d’admission préalable” (DAP), to up to 3 universities.

  • Bac only, a national school of architecture

Also through the DAP, to up to 2 schools.

  • You already have a first year or more

For L2, L3, BUT, master, engineering or business school, you apply through Études en France without the DAP.

  • Grandes écoles and art schools

Many add their own entrance exam or portfolio on top of the Études en France file. Check the school’s own admission page too.

Dates

The dates for a September 2027 start.

  1. Passed

    Études en France opens

  2. Next

Last day to submit for L2, L3, master, engineering and business schools

  3. Last day to submit for a first-year licence, architecture schools, a BUT and a licence professionnelle

  4. Last day for your Campus France interview

The Campus France opinion is one step. The school decides on your admission, and the consulate decides on your visa.

French level

Campus France Algérie accepts the TCF DAP, the TCF TP with written expression, the DELF B2, and the DALF C1 or C2.

B1 is the floor for the procedure itself, but most schools ask for B2, and many humanities and social science courses expect C1. Book your test early: the result has to be in your file before the deadline.

Visa

Since 8 April 2025, Capago collects French visa applications in Algeria, with centres in Algiers, Oran, Annaba and Constantine.

TLScontact and VFS Global no longer handle French visas in Algeria.

Costs

In 2026-2027, a public university charges students from outside the EU €2,902 a year for a licence and €3,950 a year for a master.

  • Waivers

A university may waive this for some of its foreign students: at most 30% of them in 2026-2027 and 25% in 2027-2028. With a waiver you pay the national fee, €178 for a licence or €255 for a master. Each university decides case by case, so budget for the full amount.

  • CVEC: €105

The student life levy, paid online before you enrol at a university. BTS students do not pay it.

  • BTS and prépa in a public lycée: free

By law, a public lycée charges no tuition for its BTS and prépa classes (Code de l'éducation, article L132-2). A prépa student also registers at a partner university and pays the CVEC there.

  • Health, art, architecture and engineering schools

These schools follow their own rules. Check the school's own site before you budget, or ask us.

  • Private schools

None of the rules above applies to a private school. Each one sets its own fees and publishes them on its own site. Check what its diploma is recognised as before you pay anything.

From our team

Three things we tell every student

  • Pick your route before your schools

First-year licence and architecture go through the DAP, everything above goes through Études en France without it. Getting this wrong puts your file in the wrong procedure.

  • Work back from your deadline

Your French test result, translated documents and choice of courses all have to be in the file by 30 November or 15 December, and the platform only opens on 1 October.

  • Prepare the interview like an exam

The Campus France interview is mandatory and the last slot is 15 March 2027. Be ready to explain why this course, why this city, and what comes after.

Questions

Questions students ask us

  • Can I study at a public institution in France with an Algerian bac?

Yes. With the bac alone you can enter the first year of a licence at a public university, applying through the DAP to up to 3 universities, or a national school of architecture, up to 2. Every institution on this page is public and listed in the Campus France catalogue.

  • DAP or no DAP: which procedure is mine?

It depends on your level. A first year of a licence or an architecture school with the bac only goes through the DAP. If you already have a first year or more, for L2, L3, BUT, master, engineering or business school, you apply through Études en France without the DAP.

  • What are the Campus France dates for a September 2027 start?

Études en France opened on 1 October 2026. Files for L2, L3, master, engineering and business schools close on 30 November 2026, first-year licence, architecture, BUT and licence professionnelle files on 15 December 2026, and the last Campus France interview is on 15 March 2027.

  • Which French test does Campus France Algérie accept?

The TCF DAP, the TCF TP with written expression, the DELF B2, and the DALF C1 or C2. B1 is the minimum for the procedure, but most schools ask for B2 and many humanities and social science courses expect C1.

  • Who handles French student visas in Algeria?

Capago, since 8 April 2025, with centres in Algiers, Oran, Annaba and Constantine. TLScontact and VFS Global no longer handle French visas in Algeria.

  • Does this directory include private schools?

Yes. It lists every establishment in the Campus France licence catalogue, public and private, from ONISEP open data: universities, high schools teaching BTS and prépa, and schools of health, art, architecture and engineering. Being in that catalogue is what puts a school on the list.
